This project is about using recycled materials and exploring the theme of water.
For as long as I have been making art I have also been framing it. And one of the by products of working with metal frames is a large amount of metal tension clips. They are small, curved, thin strips exactly the same size. And I have accumulated a large number of them that sit unused in a drawer.
When the Green Scene sent out a call for entries for their Water Themed show I suddenly noticed that when I arranged the clips on my little painted canvas panels (also left overs not being used) they looked very much like water.
I created the five pieces shown here that I see as a horizontal grouping that tells a story about water. Each one is 8 x 10 inches mounted on a painted wooden frame. I wrote the little poems on the wall of my studio where the work was hanging. The story of the summer in 2010 was the Deep Water Horizon disaster in the gulf. Along with the obvious importance of water in our lives it seemed to make us focus on what it all means.
